I FOUND myself craving a carb-based treat whilst out and about in Bridgwater today, and what better place to satisfy my craving than Piggy’s Sandwich Bar on the High Street.

Whilst admiring the Christmas lights, I strolled up Fore Street salivating at the thought of a bacon sarnie.

Stepping inside the café, the word quaint immediately springs to mind, as an array of wonderful decorations and knick-knacks adorn Piggy’s interior.Bridgwater Mercury: The upstairs seating area at Piggy's.The upstairs seating area at Piggy's. (Image: NQ Staff)

Flowers run up the staircase to the upstairs seating area, and you are immediately greeted by a counter displaying some of the incredible cakes on offer.

I opted to sit downstairs by the window and was pleasantly surprised to see what I think was a real orange tree potted up on my table – if not, it was a very convincing fake.

Once I was settled, the lovely staff asked if I would like a drink before ordering any food – a nice touch as I didn’t feel rushed whatsoever.Bridgwater Mercury: An assortment of wonderful nick-nacks adorn the shop's interior. An assortment of wonderful nick-nacks adorn the shop's interior. When the waitress brought over my coffee, she explained I could choose as many fillings as I like for my sourdough sandwich.

Not wanting to be a greedy pig (awful pun intended), I chose bacon and avocado with some lettuce, and was recommended to have a bit of mayo in there too.

Soon after, I was presented with what can only be described as a masterpiece on my plate.

The sandwich was absolutely stacked with avocado, and perfectly cooked, thick bacon, with plenty of lettuce, on sensational brown sourdough bread.Bridgwater Mercury: My bacon and avocado sandwich was sensational in every sense of the word.My bacon and avocado sandwich was sensational in every sense of the word. It was just as tasty as it looked, if not more, and I did my best to try and look dignified whilst gleefully gobbling down my succulent sandwich – the coffee was equally as enjoyable.

Another thing which astonished me was the price - less than a tenner - which I felt was more than reasonable for the amount of food and the pleasant overall experience.

Piggy’s Sandwich Bar is yet another gem of an independent business in Bridgwater, and locals should feel very lucky to have it within close proximity of their homes.

Anybody in Bridgwater wanting a sandwich, cake, or even just a tea or coffee should drop into Piggy's for a taste of heaven.
