Sedgemoor Crematorium is issuing an open invitation for local residents to take part in its annual Christmas Carol and Memorial Service.

The festive gathering, due to take place on December 13, provides an opportunity for families and friends to remember their loved ones in the lead-up to Christmas.

Beginning at 6pm, the service features readings, popular Christmas carols, and a live performance by The Vixens.

Visitors do not require advance booking and can write personal message tags for a memory tree or post letters and messages in the crematorium's memorial post box.

Cards and pens will be provided both before and after the service.

Bridgwater Mercury: The festive gathering is due to take place on December 13

Manager Laura Williams said: "Our annual Christmas Carol and Memorial Service provides a fitting way for people to reflect and honour their loved ones during the festive season.

"For some, especially if they are quite recently bereaved, the festive period is often a time when they feel their loss more.

"This service provides a chance for people to not only pay tribute to their loved ones but also be in the company of other people who are in a similar situation, which in itself can be a source of comfort."

Ms. Williams shared that in previous years, attendees have found solace in the service.

She added: "Our Christmas carol service is open for anyone and everyone who lives, works, or who is visiting the communities surrounding our crematorium leading up to Christmas.

"Everyone is welcome."

Those unable to join in person can live stream the service at https://events.obitus.com/ with the username ‘sedgemoor’ and the password ‘star'.

And if you can't watch it live, the service will be available for viewing online from December 15 for 28 days.

A 10% discount on memorials purchased between November 1 and December 31, 2023, is being offered by Westerleigh Group, the operators of Sedgemoor Crematorium.
