LLOYDS Bank has not announced that its branch in Bridgwater will close, despite some reports claiming it will shut in April 2024.

Yesterday, the Lloyds Bank Group confirmed it will close 45 branches across its network, which includes Halifax and Bank of Scotland.

Bridgwater's Halifax branch, located at Fore Street, is among those that will close as more people turn to online or telephone banking.

It will welcome its last customers on April 24.

However, the Lloyds Bank branch in Bridgwater, located at Cornhill, is not set to close in the near future.

That is despite some reports saying it will shut on April 22.

A spokesperson for the banking group said: “As many customers now choose to bank online or through their mobile app, visits to the Bridgwater branch have fallen over recent years.

“The local Post Office offers everyday banking, with cash also available at close by free-to-use ATMs, alongside other ways to bank such as online, phone and mobile banking services.

“We have not announced to close the Lloyds Bank branch in Bridgwater.

“Whenever we do make the decision to close a branch, our colleagues, customers and the local community will be the first to know.”

Earlier this year, Barclays closed its branch at 16 High Street.
