CHRISTMAS proceedings are well and truly underway in Bridgwater, as last week residents relished in the annual Snowflakes and Shopping event, and this weekend the Independent Market and Town Council Fayre saw Santa Claus come to town.

The Bridgwater Independent Market teamed up with Bridgwater Town Council for a Sunday of festive fun on Sunday December 3.

30 market stalls combined with 20 more inside the Town Hall for endless opportunities for bespoke Christmas gifts, as well as scrumptious food for all in attendance.

The Independent Market saw the Grey Dogs Jazz Band perform outside Angel Place, with many other talented local acts including the Rock Choir singing festive songs around the town centre to provide a fitting soundtrack to the day.

Further Crimbo-concert energy was provided by DJ Roller Dis-Goat for the entire duration of the event.

Father Christmas and Mrs Claus visited the Town Hall for Bridgwater Town Council's Christmas Fayre, and spoke to local children from the nice list ahead of the big day later this month.

Elsa from Frozen also made an appearance at the fayre, and even helped with face painting, as well as taking photos with her most adoring fans.

Michelle, organiser of Bridgwater Independent Market, explained how her event and the Town Council Fayre helped to elevate the festive-feel in Bridgwater.

“We made sure we did it on the same day to bring a real festive cheer to the town,” she said.

"The Town Council has really done a good job of making Bridgwater look really festive.

“It really does look quite special.”

Michelle also revealed that recent feasibility studies have shown the Bridgwater Independent Market is bring 30-40% new visitors to the town each month.

She thanked everyone who played a role in the success of last weekend's event.

"Thank you to everyone who performed, traded, and joined us on Sunday December 3 to support our incredible independent businesses," Michelle said.

"Your enthusiasm, support and warmth made this Christmas market really special.

"From unique handmade crafts to mouth-watering festive treats, each stall brought something wonderful to the festivities."
