GOVERNMENT data published for the first time since the pandemic has revealed the best and worst performing primary schools in Bridgwater.

The figures show how well schools performed in SATs exams this summer, and also reflect progress made by pupils.

The top performing school was Kingsmoor Primary School in Bawdrip.

At Kingsmoor, 83% of pupils achieved their expected standard, and 13% exceeded their targets, ranking it the tenth best performing primary school in Somerset.

Enmore Church of England Primary School followed closely in second place, with 77% of pupils meeting the expected standard.

In third was North Petherton Primary, with 75% of pupils meeting expectations.

Both Nether Stowey CofE and Woolavington Village followed in fourth and fifth, both with 73% of pupils achieving their expected standard.

The remainder of the top ten best performing primary schools in Bridgwater is as follows:

  • 6. Aschott Primary School - 69%.
  • 7. Somerset Bridge Primary School - 67%.
  • 8. Eastover Primary School - 66%.
  • 9. Northgate Primary School - 66%.
  • 10. Puriton Primary School - 66%.

The lowest performing primary school in the Bridgwater area (for which data was available) was West Huntspill Primary Academy, where only 24% of pupils are meeting expectations, and are 'well below average' in the subject of maths.

This result ranked West Huntspill as the tenth worst performing primary school in Somerset.

Pawlett Primary School Academy ranked second from bottom, with 27% of pupils performing as expected, and performing 'well below average' in maths.

Third last was Dulverton Junior School, at which 29% of pupils meeting expected standards, and 'well below average' in reading and maths.

The remainder of the bottom ten performing primary schools in Bridgwater is as follows:

  • 4th last: Wembdon St George's Church School - 31%.
  • 5th last: Cannington Church of England Primary School - 37%.
  • 6th last: Westonzoyland Community Primary School - 38%.
  • 7th last: Otterhampton Primary School - 38%.
  • 8th last: Willowdown Primary School - 39%.
  • 9th last: Stogursey Church of England Primary School - 39%.
  • 10th last: Spaxton CofE Primary School - 44%.

Across Somerset as a whole, Preston CofE Primary School (Yeovil) was ranked as the best performing primary school, where 95% of pupils are meeting expectations.

Countess Gytha Primary School (West Camel) followed in second place with a score of 90%.

The lowest performing primary school in the county was a tie between Berrow Primary School and Baltonsborough Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School.
