POLICE apprehended a drunk e-scooter rider on the M5 between Taunton and Bridgwater this morning (Friday, December 29).

Dashcam footage from an Avon and Somerset Police car at the scene shows a man riding an electric scooter on the hard shoulder of the motorway, whilst also not wearing a helmet.

A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with an incident.

Jamal Rabeh, of Stanley Close, Staplegrove, was charged in the early hours of the morning with driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving without insurance, and being a learner driver on a motorway.

Breathalyser results showed he was twice the legal drink drive limit at the time of the incident.

The charges come after officers attended the M5 northbound between Junction 25 (Taunton) and Junction 24 (Bridgwater) at around 3am on Friday, December 29.

Rabeh was bailed but will appear at Taunton Deane Magistrates' Court on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
