A BRIDGWATER-BASED specialist rescue team from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue recently attended an incident in which a driver crashed into the sea on a coastal road near Weston-Super-Mare.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 19.31 on Friday 26 January to assist the Police and Coastguard after a car had left Kewstoke Road, the vehicle had entered the sea and a person thrown from the vehicle onto rocks.
"A specialist rescue team from Bridgwater were mobilised and were stood down shortly after arriving on the scene.”
Burnham-on-Sea's Coastguard Rescue Team was called out in response to the reports that a car that had crashed on the cliff-road.
Police and ambulance services at the scene confirmed that a woman involved suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
Lifeboat services also attended the scene of the incident on the coastal Kewstoke Toll Road, and managed to assist the driver back up the cliff to safety.
Both Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-Super-Mare Coastguard Rescue Team stood by to provide additional cliff rescue options if needed.
A spokesperson for Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Thankfully the occupant was easily accessible and the situation was resolved quickly by units already on scene.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called shortly before 7.15pm on Friday 26 January to a report that a car had left Kewstoke Road and entered the sea.
"Officers attended alongside the fire service and paramedics and closed the road. The Coastguard and RNLI were made aware of the incident.
"A woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment."
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) added: “We were called at 19:16hrs on Friday 26 January to a road traffic incident in Weston-Super-Mare.
"We sent two double-crewed ambulances, an operations officer, and four hazardous area response teams.
"We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Weston General Hospital.”
