A WOMAN was attacked by a dog at Sainsbury's car park in Bridgwater last weekend.

The victim's husband said she was "in agony" after an Alsatian-type dog bit her arm and "wouldn't let go for minutes".

The owner of the dog reportedly did not apologise or ask the victim if she was okay after getting his dog under control and instead fled the scene.

After calling an ambulance, the woman's husband said hospital staff told him it was the second attack in the Sainsbury's car park in the past seven days.

Police confirmed the victim required medical treatment, and they are currently investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "At the weekend we received a report of a woman being bitten by a dog in Bridgwater.

"The incident happened at about 3-4pm on Saturday, February 17, on a footpath off Bristol Road and was reported to police shortly afterwards.

"She sustained a bite to her arm that required medical treatment.

"We understand a man, who has not at this time been identified, was walking the dog when the incident took place.

"The dog is described as being dark in colour and an Alsatian breed, or similar.

"A PCSO visited the victim today (Tuesday 20 February) and house-to-house and CCTV enquiries have been carried out this week as part of our enquiries.

"We'd ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or was driving in the vicinity at the time and may have relevant dashcam footage, to please contact us online or call 101 and quote reference number 5224042556."
