A MAN has been presented with a British Empire Medal after being named in the New Year Honours list 2024.

Harry Meade was recognised for services to the community in Goathurst, near Bridgwater.

Over his 60 years serving the village, he has served on the parish council, the Parochial Church Council, as a Churchwarden, and as Tower Captain and bell ringer.

Harry was also the Foundation Governor at Enmore School, including being Chair of the Governors, and has been a trustee of the Goathurst Charity since its formation in 1974.

He was presented with his British Empire Medal by the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset at a ceremony in Bath.

Speaking on Harry's achievement, a Goathurst resident said: "Being awarded the British Empire Medal is a wonderful recognition for the manner in which Harry has enriched the life of his community for six decades and for the legacy he has imparted.

"Harry was the pillar/rock of our community, the ‘go to‘ person for help, support... highly respected for his integrity and discretion."
