WORK has begun to upgrade and refurbish changing rooms inside Bridgwater Town Hall.

Works began last week on Tuesday, May 28, and is expected to be completed in time for the much anticipated Bridgwater Carnival Concerts.

Bridgwater Town Council said that a 'competitive tender process' resulted in DR Jones Ltd from Yeovil being appointed to carry out work to refurbish and upgrade the changing rooms at the town hall.

Renovations to the changing rooms include damp proofing, mechanical ventilation, new flooring, new sanitary ware, reconfiguration of the layout to include new showers, rear stage strengthening, painting and decorating along with the installation of energy efficient lighting.

This amounts to a total cost of £398,000, and marks the first phase of the overall site development, and has been funded by the Bridgwater Town Deal.

Scott Mason, Director of Amenities at Bridgwater Town Council said: “This is a great opportunity for the Bridgwater Town Hall site and its users.

"This is the first step in a long process to make Bridgwater Town Hall a venue that is not only more environmentally sustainable but also a place that can be used by the local and wider community."
