OVER 130 people turned up to a pub in Bridgwater last weekend to take part in a smartphone quiz to raise funds for a cancer charity.

The Cornhill pub hosted the event on Sunday, June 2, in aid of Coppafeel!, a breast cancer awareness charity.

Fundraising partnership Hannah Bristow and Helen Acland (both 29) have set themselves an ambitious target of £7,200 after they both overcame the cancer after years of appointments, tests, treatment and tears.

This November, they will be joining a likeminded group of trekkers to conquer the Indian Himalayas. CoppaTrek! for Coppafeel! will raise vital funds allowing the charity to spread their message far and wide: early detection saves lives.

Their fundraising total was already at over £5,000 when Hannah reached out to the venue and hosts of her favourite pub quiz to see if they could help.

Local company The Quiz Hosts created an interactive, smartphone-based quiz, which raised £3,038.

Ms Bristow and Ms Acland said: "We are so grateful to everyone who came out to support this event and help make a difference.

"The night was amazing, and we raised an incredible about of money for a great cause.

"Thank you to everyone who helped make it possible."

Mirko Fisher, manager of The Cornhill pub in Bridgwater, said: "At The Cornhill we are more than happy to help with events like this.

"The pub is and always should be community driven, helping where needed and bringing the community together with amazing fund-raising activities.

"Primarily this has been organised by the girls and our quizmaster Chris.

"All we have done is provide the venue.

"Good luck with the fundraising guys."

Local radio presenter and quiz host Chris Hill said: "When Hannah & Helen asked if we'd put on a quiz - it was a no brainer.

"I've followed their story since they first went public.

"They've been incredibly brave to share their experience and raise so much awareness.

"Their actions today will undoubtedly save lives tomorrow."

'CoppaTrek! for Coppafeel!' is expected to raise vital funds allowing the charity to spread their message further.

The pair had an ambitious fundraising target of £7,200, and this weekend they exceeded that, with their total already at over £5,000.
