A new initiative will support Bridgwater-based not-for-profit organisations, community groups, schools and colleges committed to sustainability.

Stobart, which is a part of the Culina Group, has announced The Stobart Sustainability Fund.

It is a part of the Culina Group's long-term objective of promoting sustainability across the community.

The fund’s primary goal is to encourage various sustainable practices.

It will offer direct financial support to Bridgwater-based undertakings that aim to reduce carbon emissions, tackle climate change, or protect and enhance the environment.

Stobart is inviting proposals for green initiatives in Bridgwater in need of funding.

CEO of Stobart, David Pickering said: "Stobart is keen on lowering our carbon footprint at a local and national level.

"We aim to extend our reach to others through The Stobart Sustainability Fund.

"Our aim is to augment the natural environment and promote sustainable practices for the long term.

"The Stobart Sustainability Fund seeks to foster community involvement in environmental projects.

"We aim to aid community-led projects near all our UK sites to catalyse the development of a greener world."

The organisation is already pioneering a variety of initiatives such as using alternative fuels, uncovering electric vehicle uses, and decreasing waste, travel, and the consumption of energy and water across its various divisions.

Mr Pickering added: "Sustainability is integral to our business strategy.

"All critical decisions are made considering their environmental impact.

"After building the largest, most efficient multi-modal logistics network in the UK, we now aim to be the most sustainable UK LSP."

Stobart stands as the first 3PL to wholly commit to SBTi targets.

A joint venture by the United Nations Global Compact, CDP, World Resources Institute, and the World Wide Fund for Nature, SBTi aims at encouraging emissions reductions, alongside promoting best practices and independent assessments.

For the next phase, The Stobart Sustainability Fund will bolster Stobart's vow to push the sustainability agenda.

They aim to educate future generations to positively influence the environment.

The funding will supply various projects to drive impactful, positive change.
