The Engine Room will open its doors to the public this month to showcase its new facilities.

It will coincide with the community media centre's 21st birthday on Saturday, July 20.

All the new additions were made possible thanks to the Bridgwater Town Deal and other funders.

The event takes place alongside 'Super Saturday', a day of free, cultural events taking over the town centre until 5pm.

Visitors will be able to see 'Menhir', a digital photography exhibition by Elizabeth Woodger, and the C S John Sparkes archive film project featuring local farming life, among others.

The Engine Room, managed by registered charity Somerset Film, opened in March 2003.

A £500,000 investment from the Bridgwater Town Deal Fund led to the centre's new features and equipment.

Cllr Ros Wyke, Somerset Council's lead member for economy, planning and assets, said: "Somerset Council has responsibility for delivering the Town Deal for Bridgwater.

"It aims to help 'level up' the area and create a vibrant and welcoming town centre."

Deb Richardson, Somerset Film creative director, said: "We’re delighted that the Bridgwater Town Deal board have championed culture in this way and recognise the value it can bring to communities and the High Street."
