A PEDESTRIAN was hit by a lorry in Bridgwater town centre today (Monday, July 15).

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed there was a collision 'involving a pedestrian and a lorry', which witnesses claim occurred near St John Street at around midday.

Ambulance services also attended the scene, and checked over a female pedestrian before taking her to Musgrove Park Hospital in an ambulance.

Police said she suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 12:41hrs on Monday, July 15, to an incident in Bridgwater.

"We sent a double-crewed land ambulance to the scene and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital.”

Traffic in Bridgwater came to a complete halt in many areas as a result of the incident, and witnesses reported seeing a large police presence.
