A KEY bridge in Bridgwater is set to close for almost three weeks, beginning next week.
The Bascule Bridge, which connects Northgate to Chilton Street and Kendale Road will be closed from Monday, July 22, until Friday, August 9.
The closure will be in effect for 24-hours per day during this period, affecting points between the junction with Riverside, northwards incorporating Chilton Street, for a total distance of 47 metres.
During this 19 day window, a contractor will be carrying out repair works to the bridge on behalf of Somerset Council.
These works will take place daily between 7:30am and 5pm throughout the duration of the closure.
The following six-minute diversion route has been put in place:

- Continue on Victoria Road
- Turn left towards North Street
- Continue on North Street
- Turn left towards Penel Orlieu
- Continue on Penel Orlieu
- Turn slight left towards Penel Orlieu

- Continue on Penel Orlieu
- Turn slight left towards North Street
- Turn sharp left towards North Street
- Continue on North Street
- Turn left towards Penel Orlieu
- Turn slight left towards Mount Street
- Turn sharp right towards Mount Street
