ASHLEY Fox, new MP for Bridgwater, will soon meet with representatives from the local police force to discuss concerns he shares with residents regarding crime and safety.

On the forefront of the agenda for Mr Fox is residents' growing concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour in Bridgwater, as well as illegal traveller encampments in Burnham-on-Sea.

Katie Luke, a Bridgwater café owner, said: "The safety people feel around here is declining rapidly, and it’s impacting local businesses severely."

Mr Fox will raise the issues with Avon and Somerset Police as part of his plans to tackle the problems in the constituency, which he pledged to commit his time to after being elected earlier this month.

"The concerns raised by our community are deeply troubling," Mr Fox said.

"I am determined to work with the police to understand their approach and to advocate for concrete strategies that will restore order and ensure Bridgwater remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

"We must act decisively to combat these issues in our town."

Last week, Ashley Fox met with Rob Semple, Director of Community Services at Bridgwater Town Council, to discuss the council’s approach to these problems, and emphasised the need for a collaborative approach, with coordinated efforts between the police, local authorities, and the community.
