BRIDGWATER Town Council has committed to funding the town's 60 CCTV cameras until 2027.
The CCTV cameras - previously funded by Somerset Council, before its financial emergency - will cost Bridgwater £167,896.99 per year.
The town council agreed to fund the service at a full council meeting on Thursday, August 1, in which it was also agreed that £5.4million would be spent on rejuvenating the town hall and adjacent theatre.
A Service Level Agreement is in place until March 31, 2027.

The 60 cameras covering the majority of the Bridgwater town centre and surrounding areas will be monitored 24 hours per day, 365 days a year by trained operators.
It is hoped that the funding for CCTV will help with preventing and detecting crime and disorder in the town.
A spokesperson for Bridgwater Town Council said: “Bridgwater Town Council is committed to playing its part in promoting community safety in Bridgwater.
"The most visible commitment to this is its funding of the town’s CCTV infrastructure.”
