A CHARITY that appears at Glastonbury Festival has raised over £5000 this year for the Bridgwater community.

The Joe Strummer Fund is an important part of the Glastonbury Festival, with the charity being the namesake of former frontman for punk rock band, The Clash.

Joe Strummer is a well-known artist who spent most of his life after his music career living in Somerset.

Joe passed away from a heart attack in Broomfield, Somerset on December 22, 2002, at the age of 50.

Shortly after his death, the Joe Strummer Fund was born.

Each year under the ‘Strummerville banner’, the Joe Strummer Fund hosts an area at Glastonbury Festival that provides a platform for musical acts big or small.

The stage also provides opportunities for causes that the organisation believes in.

This year the Joe Strummer Fund has raised over £5000 for the Bridgwater food bank.

Lucinda Garland is a representative for the Joe Strummer Fund and is amazed at how much money the organisation has raised.

Lucinda said: “The Joe Strummer Fund is proud and happy to be supporting the Bridgwater foodbank with money and donations raised at the Glastonbury Festival this year.”
