MEMBERS of a group in Bridgwater have come together to bring a new accessible roundabout to the town.

Individuals of the Quantock Masonic Lodge of MARK Masons attended the Brainwave charity at Huntworth Gate to officially hand over the new roundabout.

Officially announced on September 16, the new "wheelchair enabled" was brought in thanks to a grant worth £13,026 thanks to the MARK Benevolent Fund.

The MARK Benevolent Fund is a registered charity that existed in 1868 at the suggestion of the Reverend George Raymond Portal, Grand Master of the Mark.

He felt that for charity to be effective it had to be disbursed swiftly and without the bureaucratic formalities of other Masonic charities.

The CEO of the fund, Keith Sinclair, accepted the cheque from Stewart Morgan.

The Fund has disbursed millions of dollars to individual petitioners and an even greater sum of money in grants to charities within the wider community.

This includes a major grant of £1.6m that has been made to the RNLI to help fund a new lifeboat, Addenbrooke’s Hospital Trust received over £2m for machines to aid in the diagnosis of prostate cancer, and a pledge of £2.6 million has been made to Hope for Tomorrow Cancer Charity for the purchase of mobile chemotherapy units throughout the UK.
