THE official sponsor of the Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival 2024 has been announced.

MEH Alliance is proud to continue its sponsorship of the event for the second consecutive year. The Hinkley Point C tier one contractor, which first became an official sponsor in 2023, has agreed to sponsor the 2024 carnival souvenir programmes and DVDs, marking a second consecutive year of supporting the iconic local event, and further strengthening its commitment to the Bridgwater community.

MEH Alliance is a partnership between EDF and a joint venture comprised of four leading industrial experts – Altrad, Balfour Beatty, Cavendish Nuclear, and NG Bailey. As a tier one contractor for Hinkley Point C, the Alliance plays an important role in delivering the Mechanical, Electrical, Heating, ventilation and air- conditioning installations and enabling services for the project.

Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival is the oldest carnival in the UK and is held annually on the first Saturday in November. It has the reputation for being one of the largest illuminated parades in Europe, and the event’s origins can be traced back to The Gunpowder Plot.

The event is very much community driven and all involved are volunteers, and in the past two years carnival related activities have raised over £65,000 for local charities and good causes.

John Redmond, MEH Joint Venture Managing Director, said: “We are seeing an increase in MEH employees associated with the carnival, whether they’re participating or volunteering in one way or another.”

“This is a great sign that we’re doing the right thing by supporting this local tradition and creating job opportunities for the people of Bridgwater. We now have nearly 2,000 people working across the Hinkley Point C site and other office locations, and that number will grow imminently, meaning even more opportunities for locals.”

Dave Stokes, Publicity Director for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, added: “We really value and appreciate our relationships with the local business sector and their involvement, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank MEH Alliance for their continued generosity and help.”

This year’s carnival is being held on Saturday, November 2, when the popular spectacle is set to illuminate the town’s streets once again.
