BRIDGWATER is looking to the stars with a number of artist installations this October. Engine Room hosts space exhibition this month

The Engine Room, located on Bridgwater High Street, will feature an exhibition of astrophotography by Royal Photographic Society member Dr. Lillian Hobbs.

Lillian has been photographing the night sky for over twenty years and her work includes lunar and solar imagery along with auroras, nebulas and galaxies. The exhibition at The Engine Room will enable the viewer to see aspects of the moon and the sun that they wouldn’t otherwise see.

Dr Lilian Hobbs FRAS is a keen amateur astrophotographer with several domes for viewing in her garden. A keen imager, especially since the introduction of CCD cameras, she has been featured on the BBC Sky at Night and has authored some astronomy books. A Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society she was also awarded an ARPS by the Royal Photographic Society last year for her images.

Deb Richardson, Creative Director at Somerset Film, the charity which manages The Engine Room, said: “We’re delighted to be working with the Royal Photographic Society and we’re extremely grateful to Liz Williams, education manager at the RPS, for making this happen.”

“We wanted to be able to respond creatively to the installation of Luke Jerram’s Fallen Moon in the town’s docks. Both Luke Jerram’s installation and our new digital exhibition facilities were made possible thanks to Town Deal funding.”

She added: “We are part of the Bridgwater Cultural Partnership, which brings individuals, organisations and venues together regularly to find new ways of working in partnership. We’re fortunate to have a dark skies reserve on our doorstep in Exmoor so we hope this exhibition will spark interest in astrophotography.”

The free exhibition will be open from Monday 14th to Friday 25th October 10am - 4pm with some images available for viewing at night through the windows. To find out more visit online or call in to the Engine Room at 52 High Street, Bridgwater.
