A 10-year-old boy has completed a sponsored walk from Taunton to Bridgwater for his best friend to raise money for a bionic arm charity.

Dylan Chillingworth took part in a sponsored walk and cycle from Bridgwater Morrisons to Taunton Morrisons on Saturday, October 12. The challenge was Dylan’s own idea to raise funds towards Big Hero 3 UK 2024 for his best friend, Finn.

Finn was born with no hand as his mother, Lisa, was involved in a serious car accident while carrying him. Dylan describes Finn as “kind, fearless and extremely switched on.”

Dylan has so far more than £1,000. His target is to raise £1,500. You can find out more by visiting: https://bit.ly/3Y2isuW

Speaking about his challenge October 12, Dylan said: "I enjoyed doing the run/cycle for my amazing friend Finn, who is so courageous. It was longer and harder than I thought, but having my dad alongside me encouraging me and thinking of Finn gave me the determination to keep going.”

He continued: “After running to Walford Cross, it was a bit easier cycling through Creech Heathfield to Creech St Michael where I got on the canal cycle path to Morrison's at Taunton. I had a well-earned breakfast and a long soak in the bath when I got home!"

Finn has recently joined Brymore Academy at Cannington. The opportunity of a Big Hero Arm would provide endless possibilities for him. Finn has told Dylan he is “so excited” to be given this opportunity and to see where, and how, the bionic arm will change his life.

Big Hero 3 UK 2024 is a fundraising campaign on behalf of the Open Bionics Foundation to provide children with a limb difference with a pioneering bionic arm. The Hero Arm works with electrical signals from muscles in the body, allowing users to control the prosthesis without using their remaining limb.
