When my carnival career began in 1971, as a founder member, secretary and tractor driver for Bath Bridge Carnival Club, it never crossed my mind that one day I would have the pleasure of welcoming you to our famous carnival.
As the 27th President of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, I do so with great pride, not least because I know you are about to witness the streets of our historic town come alive with lights, sound and excitement.
That Bridgwater Carnival remains the greatest illuminated parade in Europe is all down to the dedicated and tireless work of club members and organisers. We often forget that everyone involved gives their time freely and I send a heartfelt thank you to all concerned. If it wasn’t for your dedication and commitment, this great show of ours simply wouldn’t happen.
You too can show appreciation for our efforts to entertain through the support of our street collection. Your generosity will help sustain our carnival for future generations and provide financial help for so many worthwhile local causes. Every penny counts… but pounds are so much better!
One of my duties on carnival day remains the organisation of our judges and collating their all-important results. The complex and intricate nature of our entries makes judging an extremely difficult task, but I am well aware that this is undertaken with great diligence and integrity.
Hinkley Point C have returned as our main sponsor for the third year and are helping to support our organisation and carnival clubs. My wholehearted thanks to HPC and all our sponsors for recognising the valuable role carnival plays in the local community.
For many reasons, the event will be a night to remember with carnival entries which will amaze and astound you. There really is no better place to be than here in Bridgwater on carnival night. So, enjoy the fun and everything you see.
Dave Croker, President of Bridgwater Carnival.
