‘Native American indigenous culture’ is the theme of choice for Marketeers CC at this year's Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival.
Originally, the idea of Native Americans was put forward, but the club was tentative about how to proceed with this theme whilst being culturally sensitive.
Instead, Club Captain Alan Windsor, who used to work with a member of the Cherokee Nation, undertook conversations that took the members of Marketeers CC in a slightly different direction, exploring the more spiritual side of the ‘Native American’ theme.
Expect to see a cart steeped in indigenous myth and spirituality, inspired by the Native American thunderbird. It will see dream catchers, Totem Poles, and other symbols reflective of North American indigenous culture.
Marketeers CC gave spectators a hint of their cart theme at this year’s Carnival Concerts, which they came overall join stage runners up with in their show ‘Spirit of the Eagle’.
A spokesperson for the club said: “As always, the club can’t wait to hit the streets and put on a show for all those in attendance.”
“A fantastic result in the Carnival Concerts has helped keep the atmosphere buoyant and we are hoping that good fortune can transfer to Road.”
“However, as long as every club gets around the procession route without any troubles, it will be a successful season.”
