Newmarket CC will cycle to each of the locations on the famous Guy Fawkes carnival circuit with their cart theme for this year, ‘Tour De Somerset’.
The theme features a cycling race across Somerset and is a comical take on the Tour De France. Be warned that the performers on the cart are not your average cyclists! The idea was thought up by Ian Jones and Guy Blake, who took inspiration from the 1978 Queen song, ‘Bicycle’.
A spokesperson for Newmarket CC said: “The club has had a successful year preparing for this year’s carnival, completing many fundraising events and welcoming new members to the club.”
“We would like to thank everyone who has helped us in anyway throughout the year, especially Karen, Pete and the Sydenham Community Centre for their continued support. We are very much looking forward to the 2024 carnival season and presenting our entry to the public.”
They continued: “This year the club has been deeply saddened by the passing of two founder and life members, John ‘Farmer’ Moat and Kieron ‘Bud’ Howes. Kieron was our Treasurer, Secretary and very much Leader of the gang since we formed back in 1976. Both will be dearly missed as we enjoy this year’s carnival celebrations. Several glasses will be raised in their memory.”
