Centurion CC have decided to opt for a Manfred Mann music-inspired ‘Clown’ theme at this year’s Bridgwater Carnival.
Members of the club wanted a much lighter, fun theme for 2024 in contrast to their previous ‘Steampunk Revolution’ cart. It’s a special year for two members of the club – Pete Watts (Chairman) & Wendy Want (Treasurer) – who have both reached an impressive milestone of 50 years supporting Centurion CC.
A spokesperson for Centurion CC said: “The club would like to congratulate them on this achievement and hope for many more.”
The origins of this year’s theme stem from Manfred Mann’s 1967 classic ‘Ha! Ha! Said the Clown’. The club’s spokesperson continued: “Cart designer, Colin Burnap, heard the song years ago and remembered the song, when he decided to design a clown cart. In the roof of the cart are Ha! Ha’s! to match with the song.” The theme reflect the club’s Carnival Concerts entry, which was also clown-themed.
Centurion CC, which used to be known as the Town Council CC, is one of only two remaining Tableau carts in Bridgwater.
