DAVE Stokes, Publicity Director for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, has reflected on Saturday’s events.

Speaking to the Bridgwater Mercury: "Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival certainly lived up to its reputation of being one of the best illuminated carnival processions in the world.”

“There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the town both in the daytime and on Saturday evening, and the excitement and atmosphere from the watching thousands was something to behold. We have also received some tremendous feedback from the public since the event.”

He added: “The standard of every single entry was exceptionally high, and we must take this opportunity to pay tribute and thank all of the carnival clubs and walking entries for putting on such a magnificent show.”

“In addition, we are pleased to report this year's carnival night was one of our safest in recent years in terms of crowd control and behaviour, and we would like to thank all spectators for making this happen.”

Dave continued: "Every year after our carnival we look at what went well and what aspects of our event can be improved, and this includes looking at the feedback we receive from the participants and the public. This is to ensure we keep on improving the Bridgwater Carnival experience for future years.”

He ended: "Of course, something which we need to look at and improve upon is our results process. Disappointingly we didn't get that right this year due to laptop and software difficulties on the night and we are deeply sorry and apologise for that. Like our entries we are all volunteers on the carnival committee, and we are truly gutted we had problems, but we will and must learn from this and make it better for 2025."
