BUSINESSES in Bridgwater are supporting a campaign to donate 2,500 tins to Bridgwater Food Bank for Christmas 2024.
Sedgemoor FM launched its ‘Tonne of Tins’ campaign in late October and is aiming to collect one tonne of donations for Bridgwater Food Bank by Christmas this year. The ambitious appeal seeks to gather over two thousand tins of food to help families in need across Bridgwater and the surrounding area.
Businesses from across the town have since shown their support, donating tins at Angel Place Shopping Centre and at the Sedgemoor FM studios at Bridgwater Town Hall. Businesses include Impact 20twenty, Paul Smith Associates Bridgwater, QSS IT Solutions, Bridgwater Chamber, Carathea and Jools, and Jeff Searle Photography.
West Country Drainage Services Ltd have also been involved. A spokesperson for the company said: “Our Bridgwater food bank is helping so many more families that are now dependent on the food bank solely as a source of food.”
“We have donated our tins to this amazing cause and continue to tell as many people as we can to do the same. One thing about living in Bridgwater is the tremendous community spirit and support that its residents give to each other.”
The spokesperson added: “We have always helped local causes wherever we can, and this particular cause is paramount this year. Our local community is in desperate need of food donations in order to survive. It’s a scary statement, but with the increase of users the food bank simply do not have enough supplies to go around.”
Managing Director of Sedgemoor FM Dave Englefield, said: “The station’s commitment to community welfare drives this initiative. At Sedgemoor FM, our community is at the heart of all that we do and the drive to achieve this goal will help to support those in need, whether you can spare one tin or ten, every donation counts.”
The food tin donation point is located in Angel Place, just outside the old Wilkinson’s shop.
