A charity has handed out thousands of hot drinks and snacks to construction workers at a mental health event.

The Rapid Relief Team (RRT) joined forces with mental health charities, including the Lighthouse Club and Mates in Mind, to offer support to more than 1,000 construction workers at Mental Health Stand-Up Days across the UK.

This included an event in Somerset at the Hinkley Point C construction site on October 23.

Organised by the Hinkley Point construction site in Cannington, the Stand-Up Day aimed to highlight the mental health challenges faced by construction workers and provide a platform for open discussions to reduce stigma.

At the event, volunteers from mental health charities shared personal experiences and encouraged those who may be struggling to seek help.

The RRT supported these efforts by providing 1,000 coffees and 1,000 doughnuts during the Stand-Up Day.

"Many of the construction sites where we organised the events were considerable in size, so providing food on such a large scale can be a challenge.

"We are very grateful to all the RRT volunteers who cooked and served meals to the workers.

"Having hot food available adds to the positive atmosphere we want to create on the sites, and encourages even more workers to get involved."

(Image: Rapid Relief Team) Roland Coldrick, RRT volunteer, added: "When the RRT learnt that two construction workers take their lives every single day in the UK, we knew we had to act.

"It was great working alongside these mental health charities who are offering such fantastic mental health support to construction workers and giving them the confidence to speak up.

"The RRT is always looking to help people in need, and we know how important good mental health is.

"We were really impressed by the overwhelmingly positive atmosphere on the sites and it was a pleasure to provide hot meals to the workers who got involved, opened up and shared their experiences."
