A WOMAN from Bridgwater has come out top in the South West Farmer Awards 2024.

Kerry Marks, Head of Agriculture at Brymore Academy, won the Inspirational Woman in Agriculture Award.

Winners were announced during the South West Farmer Awards ceremony at the Somerset County Cricket Club in Taunton on November 7.

The judges were impressed with Kerry as she has rebuilt and redesigned various buildings on site, organised a lambing day for the community, and started growing and plucking turkeys for Christmas.

Her students not only help out on the farm, but they also show animals at local and county shows, as well as working towards two qualifications in agriculture and land-based studies.

On winning the award, Kerry said: “It was an honour to be nominated for the award. Working at Brymore is my dream job, I get to farm and teach, encouraging new entrants to agriculture and the wider farming industry. Thank you to South West Farmer and to all my supporters who attended the event, it was very humbling.”

As well as working at the school, Kerry also lives on her family farm with her daughters and partner. She helps her dad with the beef suckler herd on the farm, which is situated at the foot of the Quantock Hills.
