PLANS have been submitted to Somerset Council to convert a former family home into a House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO).

An application was made in late October by James and Sergui Property Ltd to convert 38 Southgate Avenue into six bedsit flats for six tenants.

To achieve this, the plans include proposals for a rear extension to the property, along with a loft conversion and internal alterations. It also outlines a change of use, from C3 dwellinghouse to C4 HMO.

In a planning statement submitted to Somerset Council, the applicant states: “The building offers the internal areas required by the Local Authority for 6-bedroom (6-bedsits) HMO. All units will have private shower facilities.”

If the proposal receives planning consent, one bedsit on the second floor will be self-contained, with a kitchenette included. The remaining 5 bedsits will have a common kitchen on the ground floor.

38 Southgate Avenue is the penultimate property in the right-hand side of the terrace and is adjacent to the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal, which is accessible from a pathway.
