A CRITICAL generator part for Hinkley Point C arrived on Sunday, which will generate enough low carbon electricity for three million homes.
The 12 metre long, 450-tonne generator stator, which converts the mechanical energy of the turbine into electricity, arrived safely at the construction site in Somerset on Sunday, November 17. It was transported by road, rail and sea.
The turbine generator stator is the largest ever constructed by Arabelle Solutions and travelled all the way from the factory in Belfort, France.
It follows the news last month that the third and final liner ring has been lifted into place by the world’s largest crane, Big Carl, at Hinkley Point C’s second reactor building.
It is the third and final ring to be installed on the building, which will be home to one of Hinkley Point C’s two nuclear reactors.
The steel ring, which is 11.6-metres in height and 47-metres in diameter, forms part of the inner containment wall of the reactor building and will now be encased in two layers of concrete.
