A POPULAR multinational fashion retailer has said it ‘can’t comment’ on whether it will open a store in Bridgwater.
Speculation remains about Primark opening a potential new store in the town, which has been seen as a popular idea by shoppers to fill one of the vacant retail premises in Bridgwater.
One year ago, Bridgwater residents proposed the idea of turning the former Scott Cinemas building into a Primark. Stores potentially large enough to cater for a store include the former Wilkinsons, Poundland, WHSmith or Scott Cinema.
Now, Primark has responded to speculation about a store in Bridgwater. A spokesperson said: "We love to hear that shoppers in Bridgwater would like to have a Primark store near them.”
“As a growing business, we're always looking for new opportunities for store locations, however we can't comment on speculation about where we might open next."
Primark, which was founded in 1969, has stores in Somerset at Yeovil and Taunton. It provides affordable clothing for women, men and kids.
The fashion retailer says it is committed to make all of its clothes from recycled or more sustainably sourced materials by 2030, and will halve carbon emissions across its value chain and is pursuing a living wage for workers in its supply chain.
