A MAN has been arrested by police for a ‘serious assault’ in Bridgwater, which saw emergency services and the RNLI deployed.
The incident took place on the evening of Friday, November 15, 2024.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "A man was arrested in Bridgwater on Friday night (15 November) following a report of a serious assault."
"Officers, alongside the fire and ambulance service, were called to Fore Street at around 8.30pm. The victim was taken to hospital.”
A man in his fifties was badly injured in the incident and has been taken to hospital where he remains. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life changing.
"The man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and has been released on police bail."
Officers subsequently located another man, aged 35, in the nearby river and pulled him to safety. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
