MORE details have emerged about the 35-year-old man who was pulled from the River Parrett by firefighters following a ‘serious incident’ in Fore Street, Bridgwater.
The incident took place on Friday, November 15, 2024, and saw a man in his fifties badly injured. He remains in hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life changing.
Police officers subsequently located a 35-year-old man in the River Parrett. It triggered a multi-agency response, including the RNLI from Burnham-on-Sea.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service have since released a statement about their involvement: “We were called at 8.45pm and sent three appliances, officers and specialist equipment. Spotters were deployed beside the river and a joint-agency meeting was held to plan the operation.”
“The man was rescued using our Technical Rescue Team boat from Bridgwater, with two firefighters and a police officer on board, using throw lines to stabilise the casualty. A road closure was in place.”
The 35-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
