A RETIRED headteacher of Brymore Academy in Bridgwater is set to attend the ‘Oscars of Teaching’ in London in recognition of his incredible achievements at the school.

Mark Thomas, who served as headteacher of Brymore Academy for 14 years, is in the running for a prestigious Gold Award at the annual Pearson National Teaching Awards UK Ceremony.

The Ceremony, which takes place on November 30, 2024, honours the outstanding achievements of educators from across the UK. Mark has already received a Silver Award for Head of the Year.

In the 14 years he served at Brymore School, Mark implemented a vision that has transformed the school’s culture and academic performance, developing the Brymore 3 ‘Rs’: Responsibility, Resourcefulness and Resilience, and upholding the Brymore ethos of ‘Dilligentia et Labora’ - not afraid of hard work.

Speaking about his nomination, Mark Thomas said: “I am delighted to be nominated for this award as it recognises the hard work of everyone connected with Brymore including the staff, parents and of course the boys themselves.”

“It has been an honour to lead the Brymore family for 14 years and it continues to be a very special place to work.”
