Reimagining the Levels is urging community groups to participate in tree planting.
The 2024/25 season offers an opportunity for planting native trees, shrubs, and hedgerows across Somerset.
Reimagining the Levels collaborates with the Somerset Rivers Authority Trees for Water scheme, aiming to mitigate flooding by planting vegetation along water courses.
This initiative has gained importance due to the widespread flooding affecting many towns and villages in Somerset this year.
So far, the Trees for Water programme has successfully delivered 130 schemes, resulting in the planting of 57,000 trees, shrubs, and hedges.
The organisation also supports plantings not meeting the Trees for Water criteria, with backing from the Green Scythe Fair and Carbon Aware Productions.
Through these community support schemes, an additional 50,000 trees have been integrated into the Somerset landscape.
The organisation offers guidance to applicants, advising on the best types of trees to plant and their locations, and provides the necessary plants and protections.
Reimagining the Levels welcomes interest from parish councils, schools, landowners, and individuals.
