A DISABLED woman from Bridgwater believes that roadworks are responsible for her punctured mobility scooter tyre, which left her "stranded" in the town centre for two hours.
Sally Jones uses her mobility scooter to visit the town centre, meet with friends and go shopping.
But the tyres on her mobility scooter have been punctured several times, which she believes is mainly from debris on the pavements associated with the Celebration Mile roadworks.
Over 100 people have signed a petition to stop the roadworks.
“It’s scary to think that I am going to go out on my mobility scooter and get a puncture. A lady down the road has had four punctures on her mobility scooter from bits left behind from the roadworks", Sally said.
Sally was recently left stranded in Eastover on her mobility scooter after a puncture and had to wait for two hours in cold weather for her husband to collect her.
“I feel no one listens to disabled people in Bridgwater. Disabled people and mobility scooters should be taken into consideration when roadworks are thought up.”
With her mobility scooter tyre punctured, Sally feels “stranded” and says she “can’t go out.”
One major concern Sally has is the pavements on the Celebration Mile in Eastover, which have not been upgraded – unlike the road itself.
“When the roadworks are finished, disabled people and mobility scooters should be taken into consideration. Mobility scooters can only go over certain things.”
