THE British Red Cross has unveiled a new van designed to provide support to those affected by major incidents such as fires and floods.
The fire and emergency support van, which was unveiled last week at Bridgwater Fire Station, will include a first aid qualified on-board team that can offer emotional support and hot drinks, as well as practical advice such as taking photos of damaged property.
The team will offer 365 day a year cover and volunteer at weekends and out of office hours as well as supporting the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
Terry Roberts, who has been a member of the Red Cross team for ten years, said: “The team enjoys supporting people who have been unfortunate enough to need it, either because their home has been damaged by fire or flooding.
“I do not always enjoy getting out of bed but I find it rewarding and really enjoy being part of a team and being a member of the Red Cross.”
