LIZ Hayward, head teacher of Penrose School, said there was "incredible disappointment" at Education Secretary Michael Gove's decision to scrap plans for a new Penrose school.

She said: "What I find really upsetting is that we have made promises to people that, through no fault of our own, we cannot keep. How are parents going to trust us now?

“We have 52 pupils and we are operating in a space that is enough for only half that number.

“40% of our pupils use wheelchairs and when they want to go outside, they have to use a slope that is just not suitable.

“We have no field, no sports facilities and we cannot expand the site.

"We might have a really talented athlete here but how are we going to know?”
