THE president began the July meeting by welcoming one new visitor and recording several apologies for absences due to the holiday period. Janet gave a detailed report on the annual meeting in Cardiff.
Birthday wishes this month went to Wendy, Pauline and Mollie.
The meeting heard about a planned quiz night in Cannington and a coffee morning at Barbara’s.
Further events include the Nether Stowey flower show in the village hall, where the WI will have its usual cake stall, and a trip to Leycock on August 26, leaving at 9am.
There are a couple of spare seats, so members are asked to contact Joan if they are interested.
The meeting continued with the speaker, Peter Higginson, who lives in Over Stowey, talking about “electricity know-how”. Peter gave a detailed talk of the nuclear industry and the new planned Hinkley C station.
This was of interest to the village and surrounding area.
The raffle was won by Vera; first prize went to Jean in this month’s competition and second place to Kath.
The next meeting is on September 9, when the subject will be “recycling for Somerset”.
