A SELFLESS single mum is bringing an ice rink to Bridgwater in the name of charity.

Mercury Marvel Sue Calladine is already preparing a gruelling 400km cycle across Kenya next February, as part of the first ever Women V Cancer fundraising events, as reported in the Mercury.

Her next challenge is to raise as much money as possible from a mobile synthetic ice rink which will be set up for three days from next Friday (February 18) in Barhams Close, opposite V and J Superbikes in Wylds Road.

Sue, of North Petherton, said: “I am selling tickets for 30 minute sessions at £5 per adult and £3.50 per child.

“I decided to try this as I am a single mum with two boys and I took them to Bristol last summer and they loved it so I thought this would be a great family friendly event.

“We will have skates of all sizes including toddler skates a scooter and a disabled skate chair so the event is open to the whole community.”

As well as the ice rink, visitors will also be able to enjoy a snow machine, music, bouncy castle and even a polar bear mascot.

The money raised will be split between Breast Cancer Care, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.

Sue, aged 31, has secured sponsorship from two local firms but is on the lookout for more companies to sign up.

Tickets are on sale now and are available from Bedrock in Wylds Road or from Sue on 01278-662526.
