A BRIDGWATER woman has visited India to see a charity’s work in fighting diseases of poverty in remote and poor communities.
Jane Bentley spent two weeks with LEPRA Health in Action staff and volunteers, dealing with people with leprosy and other diseases, such as malaria, TB, HIV and AIDS.
The HR Director visited several projects and hospitals where reconstructive surgery was being carried out on people whose hands and feet had been damaged by leprosy.
Mrs Bentley said: “The reconstructive surgery and leprosy treatments had the biggest impact on me. One image sticks in my mind, of a doctor tending to a man whose feet had been damaged by leprosy, the dedication in his eyes was inspiring.”
Her visit coincided with World Leprosy Day on January 30, where she joined 900 people in a leprosy awareness march in the City of Hyderabad.
