THE curse of the rogue ‘e’ has struck at Bridgwater Town Football Club once again.

Only three weeks ago we reported how the club had to give away 50 supporters’ scarves after a Midlands-based printer mistakenly spelt them “Bridgewater Town”.

Last week club secretary Roger Palmer had another reason to scratch his head when he opened up a letter addressed to Bridgewater FC, PO Box 58, Bridgewater-on-Loddon, 3516.

Immediately sensing a mix-up Roger carried on reading and was stunned to see the letter was from the Department of Justice in Victoria, AUSTRALIA, informing the club it had been granted a liquor licence.

Roger said: “I searched for the club the letter was addressed to on the internet and found out it was an Aussie Rules football team and netball club.

“I just found it really funny and then suddenly thought, what do I do? This place is waiting for a liquor licence.

“So I scanned a copy of the letter and e-mailed it to the contact e-mail address on the website explaining what had happened.

“You can’t fault the postal service though; the letter was dated February 1 and it got to us in Somerset from Australia in just a few days when it can take weeks to deliver something a few miles down the road!”

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “This item has clearly been sent to the UK by the Australian postal administration in error and we thank Bridgwater Football Club for returning the item to us. “It will be returned to Australia for delivery to the correct address."
