PLANS have been unveiled to transform a former brickworks yard in Chilton Trinity into a modern housing estate.

Developer Menadorm is bidding to build 77 houses, 14 commercial units, a play area, and footway and cycle path through to Chilton Trinity Technology College on the 2.5-hectare site.

The land used to be a busy brickworks site and the surrounding lakes are a legacy of the clay extraction that took place.

Several businesses still trade on the site but many of the older buildings have fallen into disrepair over the years.

Barton Willmore, which submitted the plans on behalf of Menadorm, says extensive consultation with the local community has taken place.

A spokesman said: “We have worked hard to create a plan that will transform this old industrial site, to make it more visually appealing and benefit the community as a whole."

However, Chilton Trinity Parish Council says the development would more than double the size of the village, which currently consists of just 62 homes.

Denise Powell, clerk, said: “The parish council has voted against it, it isn't that we don't want it - the village needs a new road as it is already heavily congested.”
