A FAMILY from near Bridgwater say they are living in fear after being targeted by vandals NINE times in six months.

The couple from North Newton say their teenage son has had his car tyres let down, has had paint stripper and brake fluid poured over his car and eggs thrown at it, while in the latest attack, their own car was written off and has been towed away after paint was poured over it (pictured).

The family say they do not know why they are being targeted, but they have had CCTV fitted in a bid to catch the offenders.

One man has been arrested and cautioned by police in connection with one incident.

The mother-of-two who contacted the Mercury was too frightened to be identified. She said: “We are being targeted and it’s very distressing.

“We had lived here 11 years without any problems. We will find out who these people are – they are just cowards.”

The woman said the first incident, in which eggs were thrown at her son’s car, was just petty vandalism, but she said the attacks have started to become more serious and have got them worried.

She said: “Putting tyres down could have killed our son. We are not sure what the reasons are behind this, but it’s caused a lot of misery.”

Police confirmed there had been several incidents of criminal damage on cars owned by the same family.

PC Rob Jacobs, of the Bridgwater Rural Safer Stronger Neighbourhoods team said: “This a directed attack upon a family and we would like to hear from anyone who has any information at all - contact the police on 0845-4567000.”
