A HOLOCAUST survivor spoke to students at Chilton Trinity Technology College to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

During the visit organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust, Harry Bibring gave an account of his experience and held a question and answer session at the school.

Holocaust Memorial Day commemorates the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazi concentration and extermination camp.

It was set up to remember those who were persecuted and perished at the hands of the Nazis and in more recent genocides.

Hundreds of events are held across the country to motivate people to ensure that the horrendous crimes of racism and victimisation committed during the Holocaust are never forgotten.

This year, the day had the theme Untold Stories, and encouraged people to look in their own communities to learn about the Holocaust and the acts that can take place when prejudice and racism are able to take hold.

The visit was part of the Holocaust Educational Trust's extensive all year round Outreach Programme, available to schools across the UK.

Beth Tinker, teacher at Chilton Trinity, said: “It is a privilege for us to welcome Harry to our school and his testimony will remain a powerful reminder of the horrors so many experienced.

“We are grateful to the Holocaust Educational Trust for co-ordinating the visit and we hope that by hearing Harry's testimony, it will encourage our students to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust and make a positive difference in their own lives.”
