A HEARLTESS thief who stole a collection tin failed to ruin a charity ice skating event in Bridgwater.

Fundraising single mum Sue Calladine brought a temporary ice rink to a warehouse in Wylds Road for three days, as plugged in The Mercury.

Sue, of North Petherton, said the attraction helped raise £1,500 for Breast Cancer Care, Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action.

However, on one of the days she was shocked to discover a collection tin she had put out on display containing roughly £20 had been pinched.

Sue said: “It wasn't much money but it was such a heartless thing to do it tipped me over the edge really.

“It isn't my money - they have taken from people where it could do so much good. I will have to cut my losses from that tin.”

Despite the setback, Sue was delighted with the success and popularity of the three-day event which drew in more than 740 people.

She added: “I just wanted to put something on which the whole family could come along to and have fun and that's what we did.

“We had a disco one evening thanks to Past and Present Discos, a magician visited, and Daniel Evans from the X Factor came along after his performance at The Palace.

“I would definitely like to try and do it again in the future.”

Sue thanked sponsors Barclays, Bedrock, Clearview Windows, Howdens, Stacey's Motors and Sedgemoor Animal Food, as well as Helen at London and Westcountry Estates for helping secure the warehouse, and Griffens CC.
