A VILLAGE hall built in memory of victims of the Great War has been given a welcome makeover.

Bawdrip Parish Hall was re-built at its present site in the 1920s as a tribute to all those who died in the war, and has been in constant use ever since.

After nearly 90 years, the building was in need of a spruce up and villagers are now celebrating the completion of some improvements, thanks to a £4,600 grant from Viridor Credits.

West County Arenas have dug soakaways around the hall to dispose of rainwater and to ventilate under the floors.

Robson Electics have replaced wiring where necessary and brought the whole electrical system up to modern day standards.

The hall's committee members Chris Bradly, Jac and Pete Briggs, Bill Hubbock and other villagers have also got in on the act, giving the outside a lick of paint.

New guttering has been donated by Jones builders of Yeovil and has now been fitted along with new double glazed windows.

And a new kitchen, including a fridge, cooker and dishwasher, all donated by Chris Bradley, is being installed.

Sue Greaves, of the parish hall committee, said: “Many thanks to those who helped with the painting and to Viridor for the grant.

“Their support has improved our hall immeasurably and guaranteed the hall's existence as an important facility for the community of Bawdrip.”
