POLICE are advising motorists to avoid the A39 Bath Road after a recycling lorry containing scrapped metal hit a lamppost and overturned earlier.
According to reports from the scene, the lorry left the road near The Knowle Inn and crashed through a wall, narrowly missing a bungalow.
It has shed much of its load, and police are on the scene.
A police spokesman said the incident happened at 11.38am.
The spokesman said the road was currently partially blocked but there were no reports of any injuries.
No one was injured. Temporary traffic lights are to be installed at the location and one lane will remain open until after rush hour.
A full closure is planned for the recovery of the vehicle from around 6.30pm. A diversion will then be put in place.
Police would like to thank members of the public for their patience at the time.
